Lickey Hills Primary School and Nursery were keen to get children more active during break times. They utilised a Worcestershire County Council Public Health grant to paint shiny new markings on two Early Years playgrounds.
The funding enabled ‘Project Playground’ to create a road track and parking bays for bikes and scooters on the reception playground and an exciting exercise course for the free flow playground.
These markings will motivate and increase learning opportunities for children’s physical, as well as social and emotional development, whilst engaging in activities with their friends.
Physical activity in the early years is crucial for supporting strength, balance and motor skills, as well as cognitive function and promoting lifelong healthy habits.
Early Years Teacher, Sarah Virnuls said: “The playground markings have already had a positive impact on children’s well-being during their play, and they love them. Staff have commented positively too, that the markings are just what the children needed.”
