Kids getting active on the Bike Bus

Sam Collison, July 23, 2024July 23, 2024

Bike Worcester reflects on a year of its ‘Bike Bus’, encouraging families to get active and come together cycling to and from school.

The Bike Bus provides a fun and exciting start to the day for children, parents, and volunteers.

The initiatives are set up and led by parents and families, with support from Bike Worcester volunteers, inspiring people to try cycling as a mode of transport to and from school. This normalises active travel for short journeys, provides families with cycling experience, and empowers them to safely take space on road.

Bike Bus routes are planned for school runs. Marshalls and others ride in formation to make sure children on the ride are kept safe from vehicles.

For the wider community, Bike Bus brings volunteers together and provides an opportunity to tackle social isolation. Residents often come out of their homes to wave at children passing to school.

Bike Worcester would like to encourage and work with parents in setting up their own Bike Bus.

Worcestershire County Council is supporting Bike Worcester to grow this project, promote safe and accessible cycling, and increase activity levels in Worcester and other locations across the county.
