For many people, finding the motivation to be active can be difficult. For others, loneliness, and a lack of connection to their local community can have an impact on both physical and mental wellbeing.
GoodGym Worcester is bringing people together to get moving while making a positive difference in their community.
The organisation’s unique approach combines physical activity with volunteering, encouraging members to run, walk or cycle to projects across Worcester where they can lend a helping hand to local charities, community groups and residents.
By turning exercise into something purposeful, GoodGym helps people stay active, meet new people and feel more connected to the place they live.
From improving local green spaces to helping residents with practical tasks around the home, volunteers are making a visible difference across the city while also benefiting their own health and wellbeing.
One recent project saw volunteers work alongside Kyndfolk and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to transform an overgrown area of Gheluvelt Park. In just 40 minutes, the team cleared undergrowth and removed rubbish, creating space for a future wildlife garden that will be enjoyed by local residents and schoolchildren.

The group has also supported individual residents with practical jobs that help them remain independent at home, from hanging curtains to completing small household tasks that can otherwise become barriers to everyday living.
The project has been supported through Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health Community Grant programme, enabling GoodGym Worcester to expand its reach and create more opportunities for residents to improve their health, wellbeing and community connections.
