Children allowed more freedom at playtime

Sam Collison, July 16, 2024July 16, 2024

A school in Worcester has transformed outdoor lunchtime play, winning an OPAL award as one of the ‘best countrywide’.

Oasis Academy in Warndon has improved playtime by giving children more opportunities to socialise with more access to school grounds and outdoor activities.

The school worked with the local community, which donated tyres, toys and games for children’s playtime and installed six huge sandpits, made possible due to Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health Innovation Grant.

Miss Jauncey, Assistant Principal recognised that “the benefits of play and being outdoors and connected to nature, particularly with regards to children’s wellbeing, is undeniable”.
