Care homes find joy through music

Jemma Bufton, October 13, 2025October 16, 2025

A Worcestershire singer is sparking joy and improving health and wellbeing for care home residents across the county.

The Worcestershire County Council Public Health Team recently funded a small initiative supporting Megan, a singer from the Wyre Forest area, to bring music and joy to care homes across the county.

The funding was used to purchase musical instruments for residents to use while Megan performed, creating an uplifting and interactive experience.

Care homes in Malvern and Stourport have already taken part, with residents joining in as part of their daily activities.

One resident said: “I had such a lovely time.”

A staff member added: “The musical instruments create such a fun atmosphere.”

Music benefits older adults by improving cognitive function, mental and emotional well-being, and physical health. It can reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, help manage pain, and encourage social interaction. For those with dementia, music can help stimulate memories and improve communication.

This creative initiative is a beautiful example of how small investments can make a big impact on wellbeing and connection in our communities.
