Community Stories 2025 | Inclusive cycling at Evesham Velodrome

Jemma Bufton, October 21, 2025October 22, 2025

Thanks to a Public Health Community Grant, adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) are now enjoying weekly cycling sessions at Evesham Velo; an experience that’s improving physical health, boosting confidence, and creating lasting connections.

The initiative was led by the Myriad Centre, a specialist day service in Worcester that supports adults with complex needs. Their team applied for the grant to make cycling accessible for their clients, covering transport, session fees, and equipment hire.

Helen Broadfield from the Myriad Centre said: “This grant has been really valuable for our clients, it’s got them moving and getting out and about enjoying green spaces. When they come back they are so upbeat, happy and energised. It’s been wonderful to see and we are so thankful to Worcestershire County Council for making this happen.”

Cycling has helped participants build strength, mobility, and endurance, while the group setting has fostered a sense of belonging and social interaction. The sessions have also encouraged more time spent outdoors, supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.

To ensure the benefits continue beyond the grant, cycling has now been embedded into the Myriad Centre’s regular programming — making it a permanent part of their inclusive activity offer.

This inspiring project was showcased in our Community Stories 2025 Event, celebrating the incredible work of grant-funded organisations across Worcestershire.
