In an innovative move to encourage physical activity among students, Hanley Castle High School and Sixth Form in Worcester has launched a new Archery Tag program!
The new after-school club aims to inspire young people to engage in a fresh and dynamic form of exercise that blends teamwork, strategy, and agility.
Archery Tag is a fast-paced, engaging sport that combines elements of archery and dodgeball. Players use specially designed bows and foam-tipped arrows to tag opponents in a battle-style game, requiring both precision and movement while remaining completely safe.
The game promotes coordination, teamwork, and cardiovascular fitness, making it an exciting addition to traditional physical education offerings.
To introduce the activity, teachers and sixth formers battled in a lively match, capturing the interest of students across the school. The response was overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s something really new and different,” said one pupil who watched the game. “I’d definitely be more interested in P.E if this was included,” another commented. “I am going to sign up to the after-school club—it was really fun!” said another.
Head of Physical Education, James Gowing, said: “The idea for Archery Tag has been a bit of a dream of mine. Thank you so much for allowing me to be so creative. It’s been an instant winner for the pupils and has got them excited about moving and keeping fit!”
Regular physical activity among teenagers is a key factor in improving mental health, boosting concentration levels, and reducing stress. The school hopes that this exciting addition will encourage more students to engage in exercise and build lifelong healthy habits.
