Snoezelen sessions support active living

Jemma Bufton, July 17, 2025July 17, 2025

Worcester Snoezelen is helping people with disabilities get moving and feel better, physically and mentally, through dance!

A Public Health Grant is supporting the introduction of dance and movement sessions as part of the charity’s established ‘Activity Wednesday’ programme.

These weekly sessions will run for 50 weeks a year and welcome around 25 participants each week. The activities are designed to boost circulation, improve appetite, support better sleep, and promote overall physical and mental wellbeing.

To make the sessions even more engaging, the team have invested in new equipment including dance kits, therabands, exercise balls, and peanut balls. Staff have also been trained to lead official Zumba classes, bringing even more energy and variety to the programme.

Participants are already feeling the benefits. Ernie said: “I’ve liked using the ribbons and sticks as they’re all different colours and you can make different shapes. I feel more active, and I want to keep doing it in the future.”

Jenny added: “The dance is my favourite thing because I am a dancer. Because we’ve been doing dance, we can also perform with Snoezelen. I love Activity Wednesday.”

This project is a great example of how our grant programme is helping to improve health and wellbeing in inclusive and creative ways—making sure everyone has the chance to stay active and feel good!
