Young people in Woodrow are becoming more active thanks to an inclusive football project delivered by Your Ideas.
The weekly sessions have provided a safe and structured environment where young people can take part in regular physical activity, make new friends and access support from trusted youth workers and positive role models.
The project has engaged twenty young people from the local community, many of whom face significant challenges including social isolation, exploitation, and exposure to negative influences.
By creating a welcoming and inclusive team environment, the sessions have helped participants feel more connected, supported, and part of something positive.

Alongside the physical benefits of taking part in sport, the project has encouraged young people to develop resilience, improve their wellbeing and strengthen their sense of belonging within the community.
Debbie Jones, a Key Worker at Your Ideas said: “We’ve seen friendships grow, confidence increase and young people who were once reluctant to join in become active members of the team. The sessions give our young people a sense of belonging, pride and comradery. We’ve seen improvements in behaviour and social skills, and it’s been fantastic to watch young people encourage each other, build resilience and take pride in what they can achieve.”
The project was made possible through funding from Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health team, removing financial barriers that can prevent young people from taking part in organised sport.
Funding was used to provide essential equipment, including moulded football boots suitable for use on a 4G pitch, as well as footballs, bibs and cones. This ensured that all young people could participate.
One young person who attended said: “It was good to get the boots, so I didn’t have to go out and spend loads of money. We also like having proper kit, it makes us feel like a team. The best part of this is when we played a proper match against another local team. That was great. I want to do more of that and hopefully get some scouts to come and see us.”
