Top tips for staying active and ageing well

Physical activity is especially important as we get older. Staying active can help us to prevent injuries, stay independent, improve our mood and our ability to think, learn and make decisions.

The Chief Medical Officer recommends adults aim for least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity, in bouts of 10 minutes or more per week, ideally undertaking muscle strengthening activity, such as yoga, exercising with weights, or something as simple as carrying heavy shopping.

Here are some top tips to help you stay active:

  • Find something you enjoy
  • Keep up those strength building activities
  • Get into a good habit
  • Its better together
  • Track your progress (hitting a target will feel great!)
  • Reward yourself

Public Health Worcestershire has developed a new Ageing Well and Physical Activity leaflet to share this vital information and help people age well by maintaining their strength, balance and flexibility.
