Worcester RFC Mixed Ability Rugby has already made an international impact this summer.
The team proudly represented Worcestershire at the Mixed Ability Rugby World Cup (IMART 2025) in Pamplona, Spain and their journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
Thanks to support from the Public Health team at Worcestershire County Council, Worcester RFC Mixed Ability Rugby were able to invest in their kit and team. This support helped them play internationally, flying the flag for inclusive sport on the biggest stage.
Mixed Ability Rugby welcomes players of all abilities by including both contact and non-contact play in the same game. It offers a chance for people to get into rugby for the first time, come back to it after an injury, or take part even if they were once told they could not play.
Both the men’s and women’s teams made impressive progress through the tournament, with the women securing a semi-final place and the men advancing to the Gold Cup quarterfinals.
It wasn’t just about scoring tries though; it was about how the club came together as a community and involved everyone.
Jennie Hussain, one of the players, messaged: “Wow what an amazing week. It has been such an inspiration too. I never have the right words to say but honestly I can’t thank u all enough for giving me another purpose in life…. can’t wait to see the next opportunities that await 💞💞💞💞”
Whilst another player, George Gibson commented “Massive thank you guys, to the coaches and organisers who made it possible, and all the teammates too. A year ago I had 0 interest in ever touching a rugby ball, but this has all turned into something quite special for me since finding you all, big love x”
Player Jason Fenemore said: “It took me a while to summon the courage to 2 years ago. I am beyond thankful I did, never at that point did I think I’d be playing rugby on an international stage with people who have become lifelong friends.
“Getting to know you guys this week and watching both teams pull together in the face of adversity has been an absolute joy and a true reflection of the grit, determination, and resilience, every single one of us has. I will treasure this last week.”
Since returning from Spain, the club have already seen a wave of interest from new potential players in Worcester.
