A new pond at Bayton C of E Primary School is providing pupils across the setting with a peaceful place to sit, chat, observe wildlife and practice mindfulness.

The pond, funded through a Worcestershire County Council public health community grant, features a bug hotel, plants, a shady seating area and is already well loved by the children, who all delight in using the space, especially during the hot weather.

Headteacher Laura Paske, said: “The children love coming out here and just walking around the pond, enjoying the sound of the water and watching the ripples. It’s calming, peaceful and gives them an opportunity to relax and reflect, especially for those children who may prefer the quiet, rather than the hustle and bustle of the playground. We are so grateful for the grant that allowed us to install this new addition, and have plans to keep nurturing and growing the space, so that it will be well used for many years to come.”

The sights and sounds of a pond can create a peaceful environment that supports children’s emotional wellbeing. These quiet moments in nature can help reduce stress, encourage mindfulness and improve concentration back in the classroom.
