Accessibility statement
Worcestershire County Council is committed to making its websites and applications accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to the Public Health Insights Worcestershire website. This website is supplied by ESRI UK using InstantAtlas and is run in partnership with Worcestershire County Council (Public health – evidence team).
The aims of Public Health Insights Worcestershire are:
- To inform Local Authorities, partner organisations & agencies, voluntary and community sector and the public to the work of the public Health Team in Worcestershire.
- To provide access for Local Authorities, partner organisations & agencies, voluntary and community sector and the public to standardised data, information and analysis.
- To provide directly a suite of resources to support Worcestershire’s Joint Needs Assessment
- To act as a repository and directory to resources hosted on webpages external to data.worcestershire.gov.uk.
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard (including skip to content or skip to main navigation)
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Non accessible content
We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:
- the menu options are not fully accessible to keyboard users and cannot be bypassed meaning you have to click through all options rather than into menu categories to find what you need
- On the home page category items links are repeated
- Links are not always descriptive and use vague terms
- You cannot get to the home page via the breadcrumb navigation
- some search filters and forms are not fully accessible to keyboard or screen reader users
- The accessibility statement is located under the help menu and not in the footer making it not easy to navigate to
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliance issues identified below:
- Keyboard accessibility on the menu is coded to tab through the entire menu, rather than navigation via top-level categories (2.4.1 Bypass blocks and1.1 Keyboard (accessible by a keyboard))
- Most links are labelled as ‘read more here’, ‘click link here’ or ‘continue reading’ (2.4.4 Link purpose)
- On a screen reader in the news pages there are 4 links per news story (on the image, the title, the date and the continue reading button) adding complexity to those navigating the site (2.4.4 Link purpose)
- In the data area links are vague using the term ‘click link here’ instead of describing the link destination (2.4.4 Link purpose)
- The home page has 2 menus that are the same, which provides duplicate and confusing navigation (2.4.4 Link purpose)
- The breadcrumbs do not have a home link (2.4.1 Bypass blocks)
