Walking through history!

Jemma Bufton, December 9, 2025

Belbroughton History Society has taken an innovative step to make local heritage more accessible whilst inspiring people to get active, explore the countryside and connect with one another.

The Society has produced a new video showcasing the history and landscape of the Belne Brook walk, blending the promotion of healthy outdoor activity with the rich story of the village.

You can watch the full video here:

Walking is one of the simplest ways to improve health and wellbeing. It helps reduce stress, boosts mood, and supports long‑term physical health.

By encouraging people to explore Belbroughton’s history on foot, the Society is promoting:

  • Increased physical activity for all ages and abilities.
  • Improved mental wellbeing through time spent outdoors in nature.
  • Social connection by welcoming new members and visitors to join in shared exploration.

Local walkers have already shared how important the project has been for them.

One participant said: “Walking is so important. I had a heart attack 8 months ago and I was told by the doctors I was lucky to survive and I needed to get walking! Now I go walking every day and it’s been wonderful exploring areas I haven’t experienced before. I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Another said: “I hope this walking trail inspires other people to explore the area. Get out in the fresh air, get plenty of exercise, feel good in themselves, as well as learn about the fascinating history we have here.”

With the help of a public health community grant this project is not only preserving the past but also encouraging healthier futures. One step at a time.
