Sole mates - Walking group for men and dads

Paul Hall from Redditch is bringing men together, one step at a time, through a new male walking group designed to bring connection, wellbeing and conversation. Paul is a foster carer with Worcestershire Fostering and has also launched Sole Mates, a monthly walking group for all men and dads in and around Redditch and Bromsgrove.

The group offers a relaxed, welcoming space for men to get outdoors, meet others and build a supportive network. The initiative has been supported by the Public Health Community Grant programme, which helps individuals and community groups bring ideas to life that promote health and wellbeing across Worcestershire.

Paul knows first-hand how important it is for men, particularly dads and male carers, to have spaces where they feel comfortable talking, connecting and supporting one another.

Paul said: “I started Sole Mates because I know how easy it is for men to feel isolated, especially when you’re juggling caring responsibilities. It was really important to me to set something up that is welcoming to everyone – whether you’re married, single, a dad, carer, or anything else. Sometimes you don’t need a big sit-down conversation – you just need some fresh air and a friendly chat.”

Open to all men, including dads, male carers and anyone looking for connection and good company. The walks create a safe, informal environment where conversation flows naturally and friendships can grow. Sole Mates runs on the first Sunday of every month, with two walks available at,
Sanders Park, Bromsgrove – 10am to 11am and Arrow Valley Park, Redditch – 12pm to 1pm.

The group is free to join, suitable for all ages, and welcomes men with or without children.

Supporting men’s wellbeing is vital, and this group helps reduce isolation and build healthier communities.
