Tai Chi in the park is boosting mobility and balance!

Jemma Bufton, May 23, 2025May 23, 2025

A new Tai Chi class in Gheluvelt Park in Worcester is improving mobility, balance and reducing the risk of falls for its participants.

Wild Chi Cic is a gentle and inclusive class, run by Charlotte Burbidge, that focuses on using the principles of tai chi to improve balance, mood and social connections – all whilst enjoying the beautiful nature in the park.

Tai Chi offers a wide range of physical and mental health benefits, including improved balance, flexibility, and strength; reduced pain and stiffness; improved cardiovascular health; and reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety. It also enhances brain function, including memory and mental flexibility.

The classes, funded by a Worcestershire County Council Public Health grant, have been running for just over a month now with great success and around 30 regular attendees.

One of those attendees is Ruth, who says: “I think what’s nice about this is there is no pressure to perform, it’s just to enjoy being with other people and doing gentle movement. It has improved my general wellbeing and it’s really very enjoyable.”

Wild Chi CIC classes are set to run all year and are open to all regardless of age, gender, experience or ability. To find out how to join a class you can search Wild Chi CIC on Facebook.
