Redditch Community Shed has expanded their opening hours to enable more residents to take part in practical activities, learn new skills, and meet new people.
Thanks to funding from a Public Health Stay Connected Grant, the Shed has been able to increase its opening days from two to three per week, helping even more individuals build friendships and improve their wellbeing.
Located within the Kingfisher Centre, the Shed provides a welcoming space where people can work on projects, develop crafting skills, and enjoy social connection. From woodworking to crafting, members can take part in hands-on activities while enjoying a supportive environment.
Over 35 members regularly attend, taking advantage of the opportunity to be productive, creative, and social in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Engaging in practical activities like woodworking and crafting has been shown to improve fine motor skills, cognitive function, and overall physical health. The structured sessions provide a sense of routine and purpose, which can be particularly beneficial for mental health. The Shed also fosters peer support networks, helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and reducing feelings of isolation.
For many members, Redditch Community Shed has become an essential part of their daily lives.
One attendee shared: “I knew someone who went to the Shed and decided to try a free session. Since then, I’ve learned new woodworking skills and made things that now take pride of place in my home.”
Another said: “This has given me a reason to get up in the morning. I’ve made great friends who’ve helped me through difficult times.”
With expanded sessions, the Shed is continuing to support the Redditch community, helping individuals feel valued and connected through shared creative experiences.
