A group of year 8 students have completed a six week Pilates course to build their self-esteem and develop coping mechanisms for when they feel anxious or stressed.
Wolverley CE Secondary School applied for a grant from Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health Team and the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner to provide the sessions for students who were disengaged.
Steve Harvey, Assistant Headteacher at Wolverley CE Secondary School said: “The sessions have resulted in a huge improvement in the students attitude to learning, confidence in taking on new challenges and attendance to school. All the students have really enjoyed the course.
“Thanks to the generous funding provided we have also been able to offer training to two members of the PE department who will be able to provide similar sessions in the new fitness suite for students and staff before and after school.”
Pilates not only enhances physical health but also supports mental well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while improving focus, mindfulness, and emotional resilience.
