Worcestershire charity, Becoming Families, is expanding its support services to be even more inclusive thanks to a Public Health grant from Worcestershire County Council.
Focused on boosting wellbeing in the vital days from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday, the grant funding is enabling the charity to respond directly to gaps identified within the community.
Co-founder and Service Lead Jo Lederer shared her excitement after a six-week consultation involving nearly 40 respondents. “It’s been absolutely brilliant,” she said. “We have a clear idea of how families would like services to be delivered and will work on that over the next few weeks.”
One standout initiative is a new support group being shaped by and for lesbian mothers. This approach ensures that lesbian couples, whose experiences may differ from heterosexual families, have access to tailored resources and a strong community voice.
Beyond LGBTQ+ inclusion, the grant money will also support:
- A postnatal wellbeing online course to improve mental health literacy
- Dadwise, a dedicated support group for fathers
- Ongoing consultation and co-production with single-sex couples
Serving around 300 families annually, Becoming Families remains deeply rooted in community feedback, determined to make every family feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
