On June 22nd, 16 young people from Woodrush Youth and Community Centre took part in the Fun Run at Wythall Park. Fourteen completed the 5k run, while two took on the important role of filming the event.
Thanks to funding from a Public Health grant the centre was able to run a filmmaking workshop before the event. A professional filmmaker came in to teach the group how to capture great footage using mobile phones and iPads. The two young people who attended this workshop were the ones responsible for filming the Fun Run. The funding also helped the young people design and print special event T-shirts.
Kay Parker from Woodrush Youth & Community Centre said: “The weather was on our side: warm with a pleasant breeze. Although the runners returned looking hot and tired, it was thankfully cooler than the heat we’d had in previous weeks. Everyone enjoyed the experience, with some even saying they might try the 10k next year! It was fantastic to see parents coming along to cheer them on, making the day even more special for the young people involved.
“Now, we have plenty of film footage to edit, and I’m sure our young filmmakers will be proud of the finished product. A huge thank you to the staff, young people, and fundraisers who made this project such a success!”
