A groundbreaking initiative called Digital SafeSteps that was launched in November has already begun breaking down barriers for residents who find online forms daunting. The project’s secret is a unique “sandbox” environment where people can safely practice filling in digital forms, free from the fear of making mistakes.

For many, the anxiety of using online forms can mean missing out on vital services like healthcare, benefits, and local support. By co-designing the project with local Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (VSCE) partners it means the solution is shaped by those who need it most.

So far we have engaged with:

  • Citizens Advice Bureaus (CAB’s) in Worcester, Redditch and Bromsgrove and South Worcestershire
  • Sensory Matters
  • Speak Easy Now
  • OurWay Self Advocacy
  • Healthy Worcestershire

The results are already inspiring. One participant, previously too anxious to apply for a replacement bus pass, gained the confidence to complete the process independently after a workshop. Another, initially nervous about using a computer, left a session empowered to buy herself a tablet to continue her digital journey.

With its first phase complete and a prototype in development, the project is set to expand to involve even more partners and residents. Backed by Public Health Worcestershire, Digital SafeSteps is not just teaching digital skills it’s building independence and opening doors to essential services for all.

As digital access becomes ever more crucial, Digital SafeSteps is proving that with the right support, everyone can thrive online.
