Dance Fit | Community Stories

Olivia Toye, June 19, 2024July 10, 2024

Dance Fit is a weekly group for over 55s in Kempsey. Set up after the COVID-19 pandemic, attendees enjoy keeping fit, socialising and learning a dances to a wide range of music.

Participants have reported that the classes have improved their physical and mental wellbeing and importantly, helped reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation through the development of new friendships both in and outside of class.

“After recently retiring I understood the importance of keeping fit. However as equally important, I wanted to meet others in the community and enjoy a sense of belonging.” – Over 55s Dancefit participant

“I saw an advert for DanceFit in the Doctor’s surgery. It sounded right up my street – over 55’s keep fit to music. I wasn’t disappointed. Beth our instructor makes the class such fun. She has a lovely infectious laugh. It’s good exercise (but not too high energy) keeps the brain active, sociable, and great as a ‘pick me up!’… It’s the highlight of my week. There’s something so special about moving to music with a crowd of fun-loving people…” – Over 55s Dancefit participant
