Aidan’s Story: Cricket Camp | Community Stories

Olivia Toye, July 26, 2024July 26, 2024

“My name is Aidan, I am 11 and I am from Worcester, I have lived here all my life. I love cricket and love being outside. I help my Grandad with his allotment on the weekends as well.

Before HAF camp I didn’t have much to do, I didn’t like any sport and I was always bored. Before I went to HAF camp I had no dreams about when I was older, the first session I went to was just to see what it was all about, and I loved it from then.

While I was at HAF camp we played loads of sports, one of them was cricket. When I played cricket I really enjoyed it and one of the people that worked there said I was good. The HAF camps were really fun, and I got to play lots of cricket and make new friends, the adults there were really fun.

I now know what I want to do when I leave school. I want to play cricket. I can bowl and bat in the garden as much as I like or down the park and I’m not bored anymore. I feel like I have something I am good at now that I didn’t have before. I have learned how to be part of a team, how to bat properly and how to bowl even better.

[I plan] to keep going to training every week and 1-2-1 sessions when I can and then next I want to play for county and then take cricket as far as I can go.”

This video was created as part of the Celebrating Community Stories Project 2023 – 2024. Public Health at Worcestershire County Council worked with organisations across the County to find out what keeps Worcestershire healthy, active and creative.
