Community Finds Balance with Park Yoga

Sam Collison, November 22, 2024November 23, 2024

Park Yoga has become a popular fitness trend at Brinton Park in Kidderminster, drawing residents from all walks of life.

Starting as a simple initiative to encourage outdoor activity, it has evolved into a community movement offering both physical and mental benefits. Participants come together to practice yoga, enjoy the fresh air and the opportunity to connect with nature and each other. The outdoor setting provides a unique experience, combining the calming sounds of nature with the benefits of physical exercise, which many find both relaxing and rejuvenating.

The sessions, held from May to September 2024, saw a total of 1,045 attendees, with an average of 55 participants per week. Notably, 87% of attendees were new to Park Yoga. Many participants had little to no prior experience with yoga or had rarely visited Brinton Park before.

The sessions are free, accessible, and held in a green space, which are the main reasons for their popularity. The initiative has not only helped individuals manage their mental health and stress but also improved their physical fitness.

The project is a collaborative effort involving Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire, ONSIDE, Natural England, Worcestershire County Council, and Wyre Forest District Council.

Here is what some of those attending the sessions had to say:
