Summer holiday health tips every parent needs to help teenagers stay well

Amy Medway, August 22, 2023August 22, 2023

Schools out and summer holidays are here. It’s a time to unwind and have some fun, but it’s all too easy for some unhealthy habits to creep in to the daily routine.

Help your family stay healthy this summer with a brand-new guide for parents and carers.

“Happy Healthy Holidays for Teenagers” is a guide for parents and carers containing information relevant to this age group and lots of links to activities and advice from trusted websites.

The digital booklet covers important topics such as:

•    Being active
•    Food and nutrition
•    Sleep
•    Sun safety
•    Water safety
•    Socialising
•    Risk taking
You can also find an extensive section covering mental health: including behaviours to look out for, how to talk about mental health and where to get help.

The guide includes exclusive codes giving you free access to online learning courses such as “Understanding your teenager’s brain” and “Understanding relationships”. It’s not just for parents and carers either, there’s also free access to courses for teenagers including “Understanding your feelings” and “Understanding your brain”.

Councillor Karen May, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing, said:
“It’s essential for teenagers to enjoy a well-earned break at the end of the school year. It’s also important to stay healthy. I would encourage all parents and carers of teenagers to download this useful guide where you can find helpful information for both you and your family during these developmental years.”

The guide is available to download: A parents and carers guide for: Happy healthy holidays for teenagers (PDF)

If you don’t have access to the internet, please go to your local library where you can view this guide.
