Youth Sanctuary Created

Sam Collison, October 11, 2024October 11, 2024

The Ourside Youth Association has created a cosy space, called The Den, for young people at their Youth Centre in Evesham.

The youth group accessed a small Public Health microgrant to refurbish a room, which has become a sanctuary for many. The space features comfortable bean bags, calming teddies, and artwork created by those who attend and has become a perfect spot for reading, thinking, chatting, or simply chilling out. The project has empowered young people, encouraged others to share their ideas, and provided a safe space for agencies like CAMHS and the Youth Justice Service to meet with young people.

Jess, who now enjoys relaxing at The Den proudly shared her involvement in the project:

“I sometimes struggle with lots of people and loud sessions at the club, and felt a quieter area was needed. I have been involved in all aspects of the project, choosing colours and designs with other young people. It’s been really exciting to be part of it from the start to the finish and I know that the space will now be able to support lots of young people who may feel similar”.

This demonstrates how small changes can have a wide-reaching impact, providing a supportive environment for the community.
